After the death of former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has decided to change the name of the stadium. Its new naming will be done in a ceremony on 12 September. Arun Jaitley has been the President of DDCA. Please tell that Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium was named after Firoz Shah Tughlaq, the ruler of the Delhi Sultanate.
Who was Feroz Shah
Firoz Shah Tughlaq was the ruler of the Tughlaq dynasty in the Delhi Sultanate. Ferozeshah Tughlaq was born in 1309. Firoz Shah Tughlaq was sitting on the throne of Delhi Sultanate at the age of 45. He introduced silver coins under his rule. With the coronation in 1351, he forgave all the debts of his princely state. After becoming the ruler, Feroz Shah withdrew many of the decisions that were taken by his earlier rulers. Feroz Shah Tughlaq founded the city of Fatehabad on the birthday of his son Fateh Khan.
Historians consider Firozabad as the fifth city of Delhi. During the reign of Feroze, the number of slaves reached about 180,000. ‘Dewan-e-Bandagan’ was established to take care of them. Some slaves were sent to the provinces and the rest were kept in the center. Slaves were given cash salary or plots. Let us tell you that there is the tomb of Ferozeshah Tughlaq in Hauz Khas. Many mosques were also built in Delhi under the rule of Ferozeshah.
Home Minister and Sports Minister will participate
Jaitley is credited with making the stadium equipped with modern facilities and building a world-class dressing room with increased spectator capacity. The ceremony will take place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, in which Home Minister Amit Shah and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju will also participate. Apart from Indian team captain Virat Kohli, many veteran cricketers including Virender Sehwag, Shikhar Dhawan, Ishant Sharma, VVS Laxman, and the BCCI have mourned the death of the former finance minister.
CCI also praised
It is noteworthy that the BCCI also praised the former DDCA president for bringing changes in the state cricket administration after his death. The BCCI said in its statement, During his long tenure as the President of the Delhi and District Cricket Association, he changed the cricket structure significantly. He was always a close friend of the cricketers and always stood by them, encouraged and supported them. BCCI prays for his soul’s peace.
