Only 8 educational institutions in India have made it to the top 500 in the QS World University Rankings 2021.
In this list, IITs have dominated the Indian institutions, while the Indian Institute of Science of Bengaluru has also managed to make a place. IIT Bombay has been at number one in the Indian Institute, but its ranking has dropped in the whole world.

IIT Bombay was ranked 152nd in the 2020 list, while it has slipped to 172nd in the 2021 rankings. Apart from IIT Bombay, Indian Institute of Science (Rank-185), IIT Delhi (Rank-193), IIT Madras (Rank-275), IIT Kharagpur (Rank-314), IIT Kanpur (Rank- 350), IIT Roorkee (Rank-383) and IIT Guwahati (Rank-470). That is, IIT Bombay has the best ranking among eight institutes in India.
Apart from eight institutes, Delhi University has got a pocket in the 501 to 510 pocket. While IIT Hyderabad is even below this and is ranked 650th in the world. Apart from these, Jadavpur University, Savitri Bai Phule Pune University and University of Hyderabad are in the top 700.
Jamia Milia University has been able to get rank between 751-800, while Aligarh Muslim University has hardly got a place in the top 1000. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Anna University, BHU and University of Calcutta have been included in the 801-1000 pocket with AMU (AMU).
Who number one in the world
The US dominates the QS rankings. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is ranked first in the Top 500. Stanford ranks second and Harvard University ranks third after MIT.
